This blog now runs on b2evolution

Has anybody noticed now that this blog is powered by b2evolution? :D

That’s right, this is the result of my very own importer and I’m quite proud of the fact that I accomplished this in a couple of days (including changing my theme manually to match the earlier WordPress blog). I am going to share the converter with the community and I would appreciate it if people test it and give me feedback.

As far as this blog content goes, there are a few minor import problem related to posts and attachments which I’ll fix manually. But for one really annoying MySQL bug, this changeover went pretty smoothly.

If you notice any problems please do bring them to my attention and I’ll fix them as soon as possible. And please don’t forget to update your feed reader :)

This doesn't look much different than the WordPress version, except for this comment form.

RT, that's because I created this theme similar to the one I created for WordPress. :)

I'm very impressed. Nice one Hari! If you hadn't said anything I wouldn't have noticed you'd switched. How is it in the background? Do you have similar options to WP?

The backend is more configurable and powerful than WP. It's more like a CMS than a blog and it has several powerful features like multi-blogging and per-post enabling/disabling post filters (like smilies, smart quotes, auto-links and other code) etc.

It doesn't have a WYSIWYG editor, but the editor itself has a lot of goodies (in "expert" mode). Just check out a demo of b2evolution at www.b2evolution.net. ;)

Really cool.

And for those who really want it, there are different WYSIWYG options available through plugins:

francois, I'm glad you didn't make a WYSIWYG editor as part of the main code. A lot of these editors aren't XTHML 1.0 compliant.

I moved to b2evo and have tried if for a while and used your converter to move my WP stuff over. However, theres just not enough for b2e yet and wanna move back to WP.
Is there any way of making a reverse converter?

Well, I have no motivation to write a reverse converter.

I believe WP has a converter from b2evolution, but that works on the older version of b2evolution (1.x series, not 2.x). The database schema has since changed.

if you've got a backup of your old WP database and you've not added too much content using b2evolution, maybe you should just manually copy your posts over. Sorry I cannot suggest anything better at the moment.

Fair enough.
I'm just not happy with the support or user base of b2e compaired to WP. Its not mainstream enough yet.
Although it is very nice to work with, WP has much more to offer atm.
If things change, i'll happily move back to b2e

Cheers.

Its not mainstream enough yet.

It's not popular enough is what you mean. It's been around a while now and there's a fairly active user community at http://forums.b2evolution.net.

I'm looking at different blog apps. Grant, you have made me lean towards WP. I do like the smiles though B)

Are you able to take out unwanted blogs like Grants, if you want?...lol
